Sierra bighorn exhibit

Where can I go to see wildlife? That's a familiar question for folks that work in Eastern Sierra visitor centers. Fortunately, visitors to the Mono Basin Visitor Centered can easily see Sierra bighorn without leaving the parking lot.

A mounted bighorn ram has been stationed at the Visitor Center since it's doors first opened, but the exhibit that accompanies it has been updated to tell the story of the species remarkable recovery. Sierra bighorn are found today in locations and in numbers that haven't been seen for over a century.

In addition to new signage, the exhibit features the imagery of wildlife photographer Steve Yeager. A group of bighorn in the background behind the mount depict the animals in their native range in the southern Sierra Nevada.

So many people and organizations contributed to the project but a grant from Mono County and the work of the Sierra Nevada Bighorn Sheep Foundation were instrumental.
